1. Our Commitment

Compass Motorcycle Excellence is committed to providing fair and inclusive access to motorcycle training for disabled clients. We recognise our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 and will consider reasonable adjustments to help disabled clients access and participate in our services.

We treat every client as an individual and will consider their circumstances, requirements and abilities when determining how training can be provided safely and effectively.

2. Reasonable Adjustments

Where a client has a disability that may affect their ability to access or participate in training, we will consider reasonable adjustments where these are practicable and appropriate.

Depending on the circumstances, adjustments may include:

  • Providing additional information or instructions in an alternative format.

  • Allowing additional time for explanations, preparation or certain training activities.

  • Adapting communication methods where reasonably practicable.

  • Making reasonable changes to the organisation or delivery of training.

  • Considering appropriate equipment or other practical adjustments where these can be safely accommodated.

  • Discussing alternative arrangements that may enable a client to participate safely.

The nature of any adjustment will depend on the individual circumstances, the training being undertaken and the practical requirements of motorcycle riding.

3. Motorcycle Safety Requirements

Motorcycle training is a practical, safety-critical activity involving the operation of a two-wheeled motor vehicle on public roads.

All clients must be physically, mentally and emotionally fit to ride a two-wheeled motorcycle safely on UK and European roads.

A disability does not automatically prevent someone from undertaking motorcycle training. However, any adjustment must allow the essential safety requirements of the training to be maintained.

Clients must be able to exercise sufficient control of the motorcycle, respond appropriately to instructions and hazards, and make safe and appropriate decisions while riding.

Where an adjustment cannot provide a safe method of undertaking the required training, Compass Motorcycle Excellence may need to postpone, modify or decline practical training. Any such decision will be based on genuine safety requirements and will be considered on an individual basis.

4. Medical Conditions, Medication and Fitness

Clients should inform Compass Motorcycle Excellence of any disability, medical condition, medication or other circumstance that could affect their ability to ride safely.

Clients remain responsible for ensuring that they are fit and legally entitled to ride the motorcycle being used for training.

Where appropriate, we may recommend that a client seeks advice from their doctor, specialist or other suitably qualified professional before undertaking training.

5. Confidentiality and Dignity

Information relating to a client's disability or support requirements will be treated sensitively and confidentially and will only be used where necessary to arrange, deliver or safely manage training.

Clients will be treated with dignity, respect and without unlawful discrimination.

6. Discussing Your Requirements

Clients are encouraged to contact Compass Motorcycle Excellence before booking or commencing training if they have a disability or require an adjustment.

Early discussion allows us to understand individual requirements and determine what reasonable adjustments may be possible while maintaining the required standards of motorcycle safety.

We will make reasonable efforts to find a suitable solution wherever possible.

7. Review

This policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure that it remains appropriate, effective and consistent with applicable UK equality, disability and discrimination legislation.
