Novice post-CBT rider:

After getting through my CBT on an automatic bike (125cc Scooter) I still lacked confidence to ride my geared 125cc motorbike out and about. Seb guided me along the way explaining the process in a clear method until it finally clicked and I was actually enjoying myself. I now have the confidence and enough skill to progress to the next step (DAS - Direct access lessons with Mod 1and Mod 2 tests). I cant believe how far I've come in such a short period of learning and the adventure is only just beginning. Thanks for your excellent training Seb and I'll definitely be back for some Advanced Rider Training once I have my Full Licence.

Post-CBT Rider Development - Essex and Suffolk

A.P. Started learning to ride on a Honda CBF125 named 'Harvey' until passing her Mod 1 and Mod 2 tests in May 2022. Now she rides a shiny 650cc Kawasaki ER6N called 'Jethro' and is undertaking her DVSA Enhanced Rider Scheme training.

3 yearly RoSPA Advanced Riding Instructor re-qualification test:

Out conducting a Rospa Diploma 3 yearly retest with Sebastian who was riding his BMW R 1200GS. Seb has been a member of Rospa for around 20 years and more recently has been using his qualification for teaching advanced riding and the DSA's enhanced rider scheme. This was one of the best diploma's I have examined. Not only was his riding excellent, but his tuition was superb on the role play scenario of over-taking. Communication, fault recognition /analysis, intervention and his approach and manner couldn't be faulted - brilliant.

ERS tuition and assessment:

As an experienced rider of 12-15k miles per year I thought I knew it all. By the end of the day with the Excellent Seb I discovered that I’d be majorly lucky over the last dozen or so years.

Seb teaches In a way that makes it so easy to understand how to get better. I found the day utterly exhausting but massively helpful. He is patient, and a
natural and authoritative expert. He breaks down the day into bite-size chunks and progress is rapid. It all feels so much better when you do it properly and he shows how, the expression that really left a mark with me was when he described motorcycling at this level as automotive ballet.

You learn to ride defensively but more effectively than you would have dreamed possible - I thoroughly recommend this course as taught by Seb

ERS tuition and assessment:

"Training? Riding Refreshers? Don't need either mate, I've held a full Bike Licence since 1987, have ridden all sorts of bikes continuously in that time, HP4, RR's, GSXR's, SuperMoto, Track Days, blah blah, blah, ridden in over 15 Countries, live my life surrounded by Advanced Motorcyclists, etc, etc.... I just don't need it thanks". A different story however following an initial 2+ hour Assessment Ride through the beautiful countryside of Essex & Suffolk with my Instructor Seb's 'candid' critique... turns out that everyone can learn to be better/safer/smoother/quicker and that every day is a school day (even though it doesn't feel like it). Having recently signed-up as a 'Blood Biker' and given those with whom I routinely come into contact during my 'day job' I asked those I trust implicitly 'who do I go to and who will make the Enhanced & Advanced Accreditation processes as clear and as easy-going/painless as it can be?" (apparently there's more to it than simply buying 'RoadCraft'). Unanimously answered, here's your man; Seb Rees.

All I can say is that each day's Training is very well structured with the appropriate learning curve, goals and objectives clearly set. The tuition is upbeat, interesting, dare I say 'fun' and highly informative whilst at all times remaining completely safe (even when 'progressing' and 'making ground') and at all times utterly professional. I successfully attained DVSA Enhanced & Blood Biker Module Accreditation under Seb's watchful eye, he's a truly great bloke, nothing too much bother and with many laughs along the way, one of Life's truly 'Nice Guys' making learning fun and ensuring that Students get the most out of each day. I can't praise the Training highly enough, whether country lanes, challenging & fast 'A' roads, dual carriageway or low-speed manoeuvres, it was all covered and, without exception, it was all a BLAST... I enjoyed every minute of it and won't hesitate to undertake further DVSA/ROSPA Accreditation with Compass. If I could rate Seb and Compass Motorcycle Excellence more than 10/10 I would. Highly Recommended 5*****”, wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and will.

Rider Coaching:

I passed my Direct Access Motorcycle test in 2007 having spent 12 months on a 125. I rode for 3 years before selling my bike. I returned to Biking in August 2018 where I have owned a BMW RT 1200 and now a Triumph Street Triple. I was a very neutral rider where I would sit in the middle of the road.

I have been riding with Seb since May 2018. During this time I feel from Seb's coaching points I have become a better rider.

Seb noticed that I was moving up and down the gears too much, short shifting, this was then leading to me being unprepared for the corners, then braking late and heavy, leading to me then being in the wrong gear coming out of the corner.

Seb then took the time to advise me about the mechanics of the bike, so I can just roll on and off the throttle to maintain smoothness and to give me more time in approaching the corners, and that I don’t have to jump up and down the gear box all the time.

I practiced this for a while and then he then explained road positioning, and how to maximise the forward vision of a road, enabling smoother safer cornering, and the principles of corning, and getting the bike and myself ready in time before the corner.

Sebs coaching is delivered in a very calm levelled way, where he identifies the point and what I was doing and then what I can do to improve my riding, with a rationale on how it can be improved. This has led to me becoming a much smoother rider, feeling more confident in my own and my bikes abilities.

Riding Tuition:

Seb Rees has been teaching me to ride my motorbike for about a year and a half; since passing my CBT.
It is testimony to him that he does this as we are good friends . This must be a difficult balance for him to pitch his teaching.
He has managed to get me to face some real mental blocks and nemesis’s with my riding in an extremely supporting but strong leadership style.
What I especially like is his ability to make me identify my learning points and areas of success (he clearly spotted them before me, but the learning comes from me identifying them). Seb, eases this learning out of me.
Seb is a very patient and confident instructor and it must be terrifying following a novice on a motorbike and to remain clam and give clear instructions. A skill Seb has. This keeps me calm and makes me feel confident. I’m sure like a swan he may be paddling furiously under the surface, but it never shows.
Seb gives me positive (even if in reality it is a negative) constructive feedback which is in no way criticism or damaging.
He is a realist and understands learning and peoples different approaches to it.
I feel very confident riding with him and am content to tackle new experiences with him.
Thank you!
